WILSON -- Charles Lewis Barnes, 58, a lifelong resident of the Rock Ridge community, died Wednesday.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Marsh Swamp Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a member and trustee. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate. Burial will be in Marsh Swamp Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes was the owner of Barnes Equipment Inc. and a member of the Wilson County Planning Board and the board of directors of the Heritage Bank in Sims. He served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the Rock Ridge Fire Department for 42 years. Mr. Barnes graduated from Wilson Technical Community College. He was a member of the Wilson County Planning Board and was a board member of the Heritage Bank in Sims.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Janet Page Barnes; a daughter, Elizabeth Willoughbyof Rock Ridge; a son Ashley Barnes of Rock Ridge; his father, Clinton Charles Barnes of Rock Ridge; one sister, Mary Betty Kearney of Snow Hill; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Hart Barnes.

The family will receive friends today from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Joyner's Funeral Home in Wilson, and other times at 7043 Rock Ridge School Road.
