HERBERT COSTIN

Died Nov. 8, 2005

Retired Staff Sgt. Herbert L. Costin, 77, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Costin was born in Wayne County to the late Hallie N. and Winnie Brock Costin and was married to the late Jean Boyce Costin. He was formerly employed with George Street Grocery & Grill and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a prisoner of war for 27 months during the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the POW Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Lane Costin of Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra C. and Philip Tate of Rocky Mount; one sister, Gladys C. Baxley of Phoenix City, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Karen Nichole Tate and Lauren Michelle Tate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
