WILLIAM JOYNER

SPRING HOPE -- William Lawrence Joyner, 88, died Monday at Cape Fear Hospice Life Care Center in Wilmington.

Mr. Joyner spent most of his young life in Dudley, especially with his grandparents, the late Rev. William A. Clark and Margaret Clark. He was a 1934 graduate of Dudley High School and a 1939 graduate of St. Augustine's College in Raleigh. He earned his master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1947.

He served in the United States Navy Medical Corps from 1942 until 1945. He was a lifelong member of the NAACP, Mu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and the American Legion Post #396 of Spring Hope.

He is survived by his wife, Herleine Pulley Joyner, and their children, Landi Penn of Spring Hope, Dr. William L. Joyner, Jr. of Wilmington, Cassandra J. Plater of Brown Summit and Michael Joyner of the home; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Adkins-Drain Funeral Service of Wilmington and William Toney's Funeral Home of Spring Hope.
