MOUNT OLIVE -- Jimmy "Jim" Doster Merkison, 59, of 107 Jean St., died Sunday afternoon at White Lake.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home. The Reverends Clayton Sutton, Andy Wells, Robert Smith and Chris Currie will officiate. Following the funeral service, there will be a time of visitation at the funeral home, and at other times, at the residence. Committal and interment will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.

Mr. Merkison was born in Georgia and was the son of the late George R. and LaRue Faircloth Merkison. He had been employed as a truck driver with Cates Pickle Co./Dean Specialty Foods in Faison.

Survivors include his fiancée', Sybil Grady Carter; his "special" daughter, Melissa; a daughter, Celeste Merkison of Georgia; two sisters, Judy Padgett and husband, Ralph of Texas, and Wanda Padgett and husband, Stanley of Georgia; two brothers, George Merkison and wife, Shirley, and Jack Merkison and wife, Lisa, all of Florida; a nephew, Greg Parker of Texas; a niece, Janet Hunter of Wallace; a special aunt, Dora "Dee" Goodwin of Georgia; two special cousins, Larry Harrell and wife, Deb and family of Georgia, and Bobby Goodwin of Georgia. He is also survived by Sybil's family: Dan and Peggy Grady, Sue and Clayton Sutton, Wanda and Chuck Long, Neil and Michelle Tillman, Danny, Jennifer, and Olivia Sutton, Ashley and Deanna Wheeler; and his special pets, Pugsly and Babi Merk.
