ALBERTSON -- Willie Van Barwick, 88, of 208 Willie V. Barwick Road, died Friday.

He was the son of the late Ella Susan Worley Barwick and William Kel-ly Barwick. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fannie Casper Barwick, and his half brother Stanley Byrd. He was a farmer and one of the first turkey farmers in his county. He enjoyed getting with his friends and making music and he especially liked playing for square dances.

Survivors include his wife, Isabelle T. Barwick of the home; three daughters, Susie B. Thompson and her husband, Donald, of Kinston; Lucille B. Walker and her husband, Elwood, of New Bern and Janice Tew of Albertson; eight stepchildren Tammy Sowers, Martha Taylor, Brenda Jones, Jimmy Pearce all of Kinston, Janice Blalock of Willow Springs, Patricia Thompson of LaGrange, Lori Simonson of Wisconsin and Debra Waggener of California; two sisters Betty Hardy and Gladys Hardy of Seven Springs; eight grandchildren, Donna Sue Moore and husband, Kenneth, and LaRue Hubacker and husband, Chris, of Kinston, Tim Walker of Albertson, Clint Walker and wife, Joan, and Glenda Walker and friend, Billy Harper, all of New Bern, Karon Walker and friend, Jay Bagwell, of Myrtle Beach, Valerie Barwick and husband, Bennie, of Seven Springs, and Winslow Tew and wife, Laura Jean, of Albertson; and 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral was held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Howard-Carter Funeral Home, with his great-grandson, the Rev. Kirby Ray Moore, officiating. Burial will be this afternoon at 2 at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

The family received friends at the funeral home following the service on Sunday afternoon, and other times at the Winslow Tew residence in Albertson.
