JOSEPH D. TAYLOR

SNOW HILL -- Mr. Joseph Donald Taylor, 77, died early Tuesday morning after an extended illness.

Mr. Taylor was a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force and served his country faithfully for more than 20 years. A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Taylor was awarded more than 40 medals during his distinguished military career, including two Bronze Stars, and was given a Presidential Commendation upon his retirement in 1971. Following his military career, Mr. Taylor worked for Caswell Center, Granet Glove and International Paper before retiring from Firestone in Wilson. Mr. Taylor was a member of the First Baptist Church in Snow Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2005, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Dr. Gene Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Laura Heath Taylor; his daughter, Diane, and her husband, Bob Ivey, of Goldsboro; his son, Alan Taylor of Virginia; his granddaughter, Laura Ivey of Goldsboro, who hung the moon for her Pa; two sisters, Estelle Goff of Elm City and Evelyn Stepps of Hookerton; one brother, Leland Taylor of Ormondsville; many nieces, nephews and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Issac Taylor of Ormondsville, Charles Ray Taylor of Texas, and Dunmay Taylor of Texas; sister, Thelma Sumrell of Ayden; and parents, Bert and Mamie Taylor of Maury.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at the residence, 904 Evergreen Street, Snow Hill.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 484, Snow Hill, N.C., 28580 or to Community Hospice of Wilson.
