Died Sept. 20, 2005

NEW BERN -- George Bartlett "Bud" Holzworth died Tuesday at his home.

He served 21 years as a Marine musician and retired as a master sergeant. He served as a minister of music in various churches and chapels for 35 years, including 12 years at River Bend Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Pridgen Holzworth; one son, Kevin Holzworth of Mooresville; two daughters, Carol Davis of New Bern and Kimberly Hicks of Mount Olive; one sister, Elizabeth Schmehl of Allentown, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 7 at Cotten Funeral Home and the funeral will follow at 7:30 in the funeral home chapel. The Reverends Steve Simpson, Paul Rose and Gerald Garris will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Pridgen Family Cemetery in Mount Olive.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to River Bend Baptist Church Building Fund, 5001 US Hwy. 17 S., New Bern, N.C., 28562; or to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.
