Edward James Kane, Sr., 81, of LaGrange, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service, with military honors, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Dr. Glenn Phillips Jr. will officiate.

Mr. Kane was born in Torrington, Conn., to the late Melville and Ellen Burke Kane. He served in the United States Navy and received the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 5 bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal He was a retired Real Estate Agent.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Thompson Kane, four daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Jim Amoroso of Goshen, Conn., Candace Gale of Litchfield, Conn., Pat Sczucka of Torrington, Conn., and Linda Kane of Lynbrook, N.Y.; one son, Eddie Kane of Avon, Conn.; two stepsons, Dee Sugg of Goldsboro and Randy Sugg of LaGrange; one stepdaughter, Sandra Sugg of Raleigh; one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert G. Shaver of Falls Church, Va.; one niece, Nancy Shaver of Boulder, Colo.; one nephew, Robert Shaver of Massachusetts; and three grandchildren, Alexa Kane Amoroso of Goshen, Conn., Molly Sczucka of Torrington, Conn., and Frank Gale of Litchfield, Conn.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Flowers are welcome; however, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530; and to the Wayne County Humane Society.
