Noah Jesse "N. J." Daw, 86, of 1449 Stoney Creek Church Road, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Onslow County, he was born October 21, 1918, to the late Noah Jesse Daw and Spicy Blake Daw. Mr. Daw was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-four years, Viola Hare Daw. He was a retired farmer and had been selected as Wayne County Farmer of the Year. He was a member of the Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and was owner and operator of Daw Heavy Equipment. Mr. Daw was one of the founders of Patetown Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid fisherman and bird hunter.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Dr. Don Sauls, the Rev. Willard Hardison, and the Rev. Marty Gurganus will officiate. Entombment will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Daw is survived by his wife of 35 years, Louise Forehand Daw; his sons and daughters-in-law, Rayburn and Margie Daw, Alton and Lou Ella Daw, Noah and Sara Daw, and Delanor and Sandra Daw, all of Goldsboro; his daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Rev. Jim Gurganus and Millie and Rev. Ferrell Hardison of Goldsboro; his stepchildren and their spouses, Robbie and Sandy Hinnant and Patricia and Jimmy Speight of Goldsboro; his grandchildren and their spouses, Marty and Connie Gurganus, Todd and Ann Gurganus, Troy and April Daw, Rodney Daw, Angie Wallace, Rebecca and Seth Blum, Wendy and Keith Flowers, Paul and Michelle Daw, Sherry and Mark Perry, Lori and Lupe Garcia, Clark Daw, Brandon Hardison, Mitch Hardison, Gary and Donna Mooring, and Brent and Lynn Mooring; his step-grandchildren and their spouses, Danielle and Jeff Brogneaux, Derek Speight and fiancee, Allison Wilson, Matthew and Brandi Hinnant, Jennifer and Ken Hansley, Drew Hinnant, Carma Leigh and Greg Brown, and Teresa and Dok Smith; his great-grandchildren, Michael Gurganus, David Gurganus, Taylor Ann Gurganus, Camden Daw, Joshua Wallace, Eowyn Blum, Jake Flowers, Courtney Bradford, Thomas Towson, Natalia Garcia, Erin Jackson and husband, Andy, Casi Mooring, Tyler Mooring and Kelly Mooring; his step-great-grandchildren, Sarah Brogneaux, Ashlan Hinnant, Zaida Hinnant, Rex Rose, Summer Rose, Jimmy Brown, Hannah Brown, Stephanie Perry, Ty Perry, Christian Brogneaux and Jason Tharrington; his great-great-grandchildren, Anna Jackson and Eathan Jackson; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Lonnie Killette of Goldsboro and Eloise Baker of Tarboro; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Betty Daw of Goldsboro; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gladys and Paul Goff of Goldsboro, Margie and Rayburn Daw of Goldsboro, Chris and Ray Grimes of Goldsboro, Juanita and Billy Bass of Goldsboro, Gatha and Joe Martin of Pikeville, Atha and Cleatus Howell of Goldsboro, Tomi and Larry Harris of Goldsboro, and Margaret Daw of Goldsboro.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Aleeda Joyner, and three brothers, Bernard Daw, Craig Daw and Marvin Daw.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service on Thursday, and other times at the residence.
