James Alvin Murray, 76, died Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center,

A native of Greene County, he was born the son of the late, Walter H. and Neta Mooring Murray. He was a retired rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Snow Hill. He was also a member of the Radiance Masonic Lodge No. 132 in Snow Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Jones Murray; sons, Al Murray, and his wife, Vanessa, of Snow Hill and John Murray of Kinston; two grandsons, Lance Murray and Trent Murray; and a brother, Ray Murray, of Snow Hill.

The funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with Dr. Gene Martin officiating. Interment will include Masonic rites and will be in Snow Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at the funeral home, and other times at the residence at 405 Greenridge Road in Snow Hill.
