DIXIE B. EDMUNDSON

FREMONT -- Dixie Barnes Edmundson, 91, "Miss Dixie", passed away at home Friday, August 12, 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents M.W. and Nannie Davis Barnes, and her husband, John R. Edmundson, all of Fremont.

"Miss Dixie", a retired educator, enjoyed working in her yard, and sharing memories of the special days and students in her classroom. She was deeply honored and humbled to have been selected as Wayne County's Teacher of the Year in the early 1970s.

The funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Martin Armstrong.

Surviving are two sons, Rudy Edmundson and wife, Karen, and Donald Edmundson and wife, Phyllis, of Fremont; daughter, Nanelle Edmundson Congleton and husband, Bob, of Ayden; grandchildren, Don Edmundson and wife, Linda, and Chuck Edmundson and wife, Lisa, of Fremont, Tracey Edmundson Ivey and husband, Mitch, of Goldsboro, Rob Congleton and wife, Donna, and Chris Congleton and wife, Rhonda, of Ayden, John Congleton and wife, Jennifer, of Youngsville and Melissa Edmundson of Fremont and Columbia, SC; great-grandchildren, Travis, Amanda, and Ella Ann Edmundson, John, Sara Nan, and Leah Edmundson, Ben, Cade, and Matthew Ivey, Caroline Congleton, Andrew, and Ethan Congleton and Brandi Holiday; sisters, Ruby Brown, Daphne Fulkerson, and Ladell Pate of Fremont and Marjorie Singleton of Portsmouth, Va.; and numerous very special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation for all the acts of kindness that made this passage of "Miss Dixie" a journey which up-lifted our spirits and souls.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice; or to Fremont United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 147, Fremont, N.C., 27830 ;or to Community Home Care & Hospice Foundation, 1201-C, Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, whose staff provided kindness, professional expertise, and most of all loving support for us and our mother.
