James Thomas "Tom" Rowe, 74, of 3044 U.S. Hwy. 117 North, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Neal Wingfield officiating.

Mr. Rowe was born March 27, 1931, in Wayne County to the late Retus and Roxie Best Rowe. He was a retired farmer in the Belfast Community and had served as fire chief of the Belfast Fire Department for 24 years. Mr. Rowe was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Glendora W. Rowe; one daughter, Rebecca R. Sasser, and her husband, Michael, of Goldsboro; one son, Jimmy Rowe of Goldsboro; two grandchildren, Tyler Rowe and Riley Sasser; one sister, Sally Rowe Hales of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Rowe was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Rowe Kirby.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834; or to Salem United Methodist Church, 2706 Salem Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
