HAZEL S. NEWSOME

Ruby Hazel Sullivan Newsome of Britthaven Nursing Home died Tuesday.

Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Hardy and Annie Rosson Sullivan and wife of the late Arnold Joabe Newsome. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Vickie Dawson, a grandson, Philip Dawson and a son-in-law, Donald Qualk-enbush and all of her brothers and sisters. She was a charter member of Rosewood First Baptist Church and a long time member of the Rosewood Extension Homemakers.

Funeral services will be held tonight at 7 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Newsome is survived by two sons, A.J. Newsome of Smithfield and Ralph Newsome and wife Darlene of Rosewood; three daughters Frances Dawson and husband Roger C. Dawson of Goldsboro, Doris Thompson and husband Dick Thompson of Leland and Betty Qualkenbush of Florida; fifteen grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lovie Sullivan of Goldsboro and Eleanor McCandless of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

The family members will greet friends immediately following the service on Thursday night at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
