Polly Annie Grady Smith, 84, a long-time resident of the Hood Swamp community, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mrs. Smith was born October 22, 1920, in Wayne County to the late Lawton B. Grady and Josephine Newsome Grady. She was married to the late Arnold Lee Smith.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mike Grady officiating. Interment will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Smith Gray, and her husband, Royce, of LaGrange; two sons, Thomas Smith and wife, Sharon, of Pikeville and Elton Smith and wife, Ann, of Goldsboro; one sister, Julia McQueen of Raleigh; her grandchildren, Elton Smith Jr., Michael M. Smith, Kenneth Stephen Smith, Lucretia Smith Creech, Jenise Smith Watkins, Dana Weaver Bradford and Daniel S. Gray; and eight great-grandchildren, Jonathan Smith, Hannah Smith, Morgan Smith, Stephanie Smith, Zachary Smith, Anna Bradford, Macy Bradford and Colby Creech.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by three brothers, Judge Grady, Swift Grady and Dan Grady; and her sister, Sudie Mae Suggs.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 4009 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service on Thursday and at other times at the home of Elton and Ann Smith, 151 Smith Farm Road.
