CHARLOTTE -- Mark Perkins Small, 22, grandson of the Rev. and Mrs. Jean Hood of Goldsboro, died Sunday.

He was a native of Allegheny County, Pa., was a graduate of Harding University High School, and an Eagle Scout. He was employed with Thyssen Krupp Steel Services in Richburg, S.C., and was previously an assistant manager with Autobell Car Wash in Charlotte.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. The officiating ministers will be Rev. Dr. John Wilkerson, the Rev. Jean Hood and Cooper Freeman. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving, in addition to his grandparents, are his parents, Barry and Betty Small and Doug and Cindy McKenzie; brothers, Matthew Small, Jacob McKenzie and Jason Laxague of Charlotte; one sister, Elizabeth Laxague of Asheville; and his other grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Perkins of Wilmington, Mr. and Mrs. Miles Thompson of Monroe, Paul Small of Canonsburg, Pa., and Donald and Sandra McKenzie of Phoenix, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 7407 Steele Creek Road, Charlotte, N.C., 28217.
