DUDLEY -- Gloria Thompson Lawson, 74, of 105 Scott Circle, died Thursday at her home.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Statesville on May 9, 1931, to the late John Edward Thompson and Winona Howard Thompson. She was a member of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Goldsboro where she remained a faithful member, serving on many committees. She became employed at Wayne Memorial Hospital and Retired from Wayne Community College Nursing Department. She also served six years on the Wayne Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Mrs. Lawson was also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

She is survived by her husband, Dan L. Lawson Sr; a son, Dan Lawson Jr. and wife, Sylvia of Bolling Brook, Ill.; a daughter, Linda Darden of Raleigh; two brothers, Richard L. Thompson, and wife, Betty, of Middletown, Conn., and Blair Thompson of Statesville; a sister-in-law, Ruth Thompson of Hartford, Conn.; six grandchildren, Stacy, Daniel, Teneshia, Devon, Veronica and Daryle; and a host of nieces, nephews, and the devoted and cherished Whitley family of Princeton, neighbors and friends in the Dudley and Goldsboro area.

A viewing will be held today from 3 until 7 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will be present from 5:30 until 7 p.m. to receive friends, and other times at the residence.
