PIKEVILLE -- Retired (Air Force) Master Sergeant Milton Earl Gurley, 74, of 886 Gurley Dairy Road, died Saturday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 1 1a.m. Monday from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home. The Reverend Jimmy Earp will officiate. Burial will follow at Creech's Cemetery will full military honors.

Mr. Gurley was retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant. During his time of service, he served with an Elite Group in the 19th Air Force, served during the Korean War in which he received many medals and honors, and was a Master Paratrooper. He attended Holt's Pond Church of God of Prophecy in Princeton.

He is survived by two sons, Lieutenant Colonel Dwight Earl Gurley, M.D. and wife, Kirsten, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Douglas Scott Gurley of Wilmington; one daughter and his caretaker, Kay Annette Gurley of Goldsboro and their mother, Betty Ann; one brother, Rayford Gurley and wife, Hester, of Goldsboro; one sister, Pauline Peacock and husband, Joe of Goldsboro; and seven grandchildren, Scott Alan Gurley, Lora Owens, Megan Gurley, Lenora Bernstein, Michael D. (Kalani) Gurley, Joshua E. Gurley, and Keiko Evalani Gurley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leon Gurley, Jesse Wayne Gurley and Johnny Gurley; and one sister, Lola Mae Singleton.

The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the service from 10 until 11 a.m. at Howell Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.
