ROCHELLE THORNTON

Rochelle C. Thornton, 89, formerly of Goldsboro and the widow of Carl Sasser and James Thornton, died Tuesday in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Dr. Fred Clarke will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. Thornton was born in Wayne County and was the daughter of the late Leon Crumpler and Estelle Mitchell West. She retired from Sears in Goldsboro and was a member of the First Christian Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Pat Sasser Hite, and her husband, Bill, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; one son, Michael Sasser, and his wife, Joyce, of Beaufort; her grandchildren, Carla Clifton, Jimmy Hall, Dewey Sasser, Dawn Adams and Daniel Conover; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her stepchildren, Shirley Powell, George Thornton, James Thornton and Nelson Thornton, all of Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
