JOHN IRA EDWARDS

KINSTON -- John Ira Edwards, 77, of 1710 Holly Ridge Road, died Saturday at his home.

John Ira was born in Wayne County to the late Johnny Carson Edwards and Bessie Pugh Edwards. John Ira was a retired carpenter and a member of Beston United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a past member of the New Hope Volunteer Fire Department.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. T.C. West and Dr. Curtis Rains officiating. A committal service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Pinelawn Memorial Park.

John Ira is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Joyce Holmes Edwards; five children, Rachel Rains and husband, Curtis of Kinston, Sue Slaughter and husband, Pete of New Bern, Jane Stutts and husband, Donald of Fremont, Keith Edwards and wife, Mary Jane of Kinston, Joy Smith and husband, Breen of La Grange; one brother, Gerald Edwards of Goldsboro; one sister, Anna Ruth Edmundson of Pikeville; seven grandchildren, Greg White, Kim Fountain, Heather Stanley, Donnie Stutts, Joshua Stutts, Jonathan Edwards and Donovan Harper; three great-grandchildren, Hatch Fountain, Katy Fountain and Justin Taylor.

The family will receive friends Monday following the service and at other times they will be at the home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834, or the church of your choice.

Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
