VERNON R. WHETSELL

MOUNT OLIVE -- Vernon Ray Whetsell, 83, of Mount Olive, fell asleep in the Lord at the home of his son on Wednesday, March 23, 2005.

A service to celebrate Vernon's life will be held Friday, March 25, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Salem Advent Christian Church, 909 North Church Street in Mount Olive (next to Tyndall Funeral Home). Pastor Richard Hathaway will officiate. Vernon will be laid to rest at Wayne Memorial Park following the service.

Vernon was born in West Virginia, the son of the late William E. and Dora Whetsell. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed with Sears, Roebuck & Co.. and retired after 32 years of service. Vernon faithfully taught the Adult Sunday School class at Salem Advent Christian Church for more than 40 years.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 58 years Elnora Price Whetsell; two sons, Thomas E. Whetsell and his wife, Brenda, of Mount Olive, and G. Ray Whetsell and his wife, Debbie, of Goldsboro; two grandsons, John T. Whetsell, his wife, Amanda, and their son, Rilee of Virginia, and Benjamin R. Whetsell of Mount Olive. He is also survived by two brothers, Bill Whetsell and his wife, Dorothy, of Maryland and Albert Whetsell and his wife, Jean, of Wilson; and two special sisters-in-law, Doris Oates and her husband, Hugh, of Mount Olive and Margaret Price, also of Mount Olive.

Friends and family will be received this evening from 7 until 8:30 at the home of Ray and Debbie Whetsell, 300 Scott Street (off Hwy. 111 south) Goldsboro.

It is requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Salem Advent Christian Church, 909 North Church Street, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
