Esther Futrell Stevens, 96, a long-time resident of Kirkwood Retirement Community, died Wednesday evening at the Brian Center.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member. The pastor, Stephen Norris, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. Stevens was born in Wayne County and lived most of her life in or near Goldsboro. She retired from Grant's Department Store, which was in downtown Goldsboro, after many years of service.

Her survivors include three nephews, Fred Futrell and wife Jean of Princeton, Jim Futrell and wife Linda of Seven Springs, William Grimes and wife Jackie of Lake Lure; nieces, Charlotte Seybold and husband Don of McHenry, M.D., and Jane Lyda and husband Terry of Hendersonville; and seven great-nephews, two great-nieces, one great-great-nephew; and special friend, Jo Ann Wiggs and family of Goldsboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Obelia Crumpler Futrell; husband, O.J. Stevens; son, Joe Stevens; brothers, Willie Futrell and Marvin Futrell; sister, Martha Grimes; niece, Patsy Futrell Aycock.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to Spring Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 2127 West U.S. 70 Hwy., Goldsboro, NC 27530.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. and other times at the home of Fred and Jean Futrell, 141 Whitley Church Road, Princeton.
