MABEL E. FARMER

Mabel Clara Edgerton Farmer, 88, of 102 Plantation Road, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Wayne County, she was born to the late Frank Anderson Edgerton and Mary Alice Frazier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Garland Farmer Jr.. and one son, Lamar Garland Farmer III.

Mrs. Farmer was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She graduated from Nahunta High School and in past years was employed by Stanley Home Products and was also a long-time Catalog Department Manager for Sears Roebuck in Goldsboro.

Mrs. Farmer was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and loyal supporter of Covington House and St. Jude's Hospital.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ben G. Farmer and Julie Farmer of Savannah, Ga.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty F. and Charles Blanchard of Charleston, S.C., Nancy F. and Hal Keck of Goldsboro and Mary F. and Wayne Sullivan of Mount Olive; and one sister, Ruth E. Swearer of Baltimore, Md.

She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; Comar Blanchard, Michael Blanchard, Kevin Blanchard, Mark Blanchard, Regan Blanchard and JoBeth Blanchard Wade of Charleston, S.C., Jeff Farmer, Christina Farmer Woiwode, Brent Farmer, Judy Farmer Gray of Savannah, Ga., Randy Farmer of Gainesville, Ga., Sean Sullivan, Kelli Edwards, Julianne Keck and Tyler Keck of Goldsboro, DeAnne Sullivan Purvis of Wilson, Tiffany Keck Schmitt of Tyler, Texas, and Adair Keck McGraw of St. Louis, Mo.; and 41 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the rosary for Mrs. Farmer will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Norris presiding. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
