MARY SMITH
WARSAW -- Mary Elizabeth Smith, 97, died Friday at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen's A.M.E. Zion Church in Warsaw. The Rev. Billy Wright will officiate. Burial will be in the Devotional Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late William and Mary Kornegay and was the widow of William Edward Smith. A retired teacher, she taught in Duplin County Schools for 40 years. She was a member of St. Stephen's A.M.E. Zion Church, where she had served as church treasurer, Sunday school teacher, deaconess, and as a member of the Trustee Board, Senior Choir and Missionary Department. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Golden Jewel Chapter 71.
She is survived by a daughter, Daralene S. Tinsley of Fayetteville; a son, William E. Smith Jr. of Warsaw; a goddaughter, Dr. Warachal E. Faison of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Sallie L. Kornegay and Mary Alice Lisby of Warsaw; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The viewing hours will be from 6 until 8 today at Garris Funeral Home in Mount Olive, and at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
