EUGENE MARTIN SR.

FAISON -- Eugene C. Martin, Sr. 76, of 120 Fletcher St.,., died Tuesday at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, Va.

He was a retired employee of the Boling Chair Co. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953 and saw involvement in the Korean War. He was a member of the Faison Presbyterian Church and the Warsaw V.F.W. Post, and was a loyal member of the North Duplin Boosters Club.

The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Tyndall Funeral Chapel in Mount Olive with the Rev. Elizabeth M. Deibert officiating. Following the service, the family will remain at the funeral home to receive friends. At other times, they will be at the home. The committal service will include military honors and will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Faison Cemetery.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Margaret Oates Martin of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph "Butch" and Frances Coley of Pine Level, Eugene Martin Jr. and Beverly Martin of Mount Olive and Hugh Bryant and Donna Martin of Faison; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Rod Lewis of Dudley; a sister, Rachel M. Clifton of Faison; and 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bryant and Geneva Crow Martin, two brothers, Frank Martin and William "Bill" Martin; and three sisters, Clara M. Casteen, Clyde M. Crouch, and Maryetta Davis.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to North Duplin Athletic Dept., c/o North Duplin High School, P.O. Box 306, Calypso, NC 28325, or the North Duplin Dixie Youth in Faison.

Arrangements are with Tyndall in Mount Olive.
