ROBERT LEE MONTGOMERY

MAGNOLIA -- Robert Lee Montgomery, 86, owner of Bob's V.W. Garage, died Thursday at Wake Medical Heart Center in Raleigh.

He was born August 31, 1918 to the late Claude W. and Rebecca Bowman Montgomery of Patrick County, Ararat, Va.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Montgomery; two sisters, Millie Montgomery and Alma Griffin; and one son-in-law.

Mr. Montgomery was a veteran of the United States Army, serving two years during World War II in Rineland Central Europe, with the 406th Infantry, leaving with a rank of Technician 4. He also worked with Glen L. Martin Airplanes as a mechanic, building and restoring airplanes during the war. Using his skills as a mechanic, he trained further with Chrysler Corporation in Flint, Mich., before working for Lawrence Motors in Richmond, Va. Mr. Montgomery, again, served his country by working on the Norfolk Naval Base in the Public Transportation Department, retiring after twenty years. He won many awards through his work with Chrysler Corporation and with Norfolk Naval Base.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Powell Harris Montgomery of the home; one daughter, Patsy Montgomery Newsome of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Gates Montgomery of Ararat, Va.; two sisters, Virginia Thompson of Ararat, Va., and Mildred Pell of Walkertown, Va.; two step-sons; one sister-in-law; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Community Chapel, Community Funeral Home, 1654 Highway 24/50 E., Warsaw. The Rev. Dale Myers will officiate. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens, Highway 24/50 E., Warsaw.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 7 until 9 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw. Family and friends will be received at other times at the Jim Harris, Warsaw home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Mid-Atlantic affiliate Memorials and Tributes Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va., 23058-5216.
