DUDLEY -- Smithie Hines Mitchell, 84, of 420 Mitchell Road, died Wednesday in Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Johnny Sasser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Wayne County, Mrs. Mitchell was the daughter of the late Allen Wooten and Lucy Lewis Hines and was the widow of Berry Mitchell. She was a graduate of Indian Springs Schools and was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur M. Mitchell and wife Jean of Goldsboro, and Berry G. "B. G." Mitchell of Dudley and his special friend, Cheryl; three daughters and their husbands, Nora M. and Johnny Sasser of Dudley, Eleanor M. and John Jordan of Charlotte, and Doris M. and Gary Burroughs of Mount Olive; and seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Jerry, Walter, Claude, Henry, Aaron, and Isaac Hines; and four sisters, Maybelle Price, Frances Herring, Vera Tadlock and Sadie Blanton.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
