GATSY N. SMITH
LAGRANGE -- Mrs. Gatsy Newsome Smith, 83, of 106 Dana Drive, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with McGee Smith officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Wayne County and was the daughter of the late John R. and Vina Ann Hill Newsome. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are two sons, Douglas D. Smith and wife Catherine Smith of LaGrange and John Ed Smith, Sr. and wife Frances K. Smith of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Dina Evans and Dana "Sissy" Sasser of LaGrange, Devonna "Dee" Custer of Newark, Ohio, Kathleen Luzadder of Havelock and John Ed Smith, Jr. of Newark, Ohio; and nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her sisters, Jessie Lancaster, Ethel Lancaster, John Ann Parks and Ellen Newsome; and her brothers, David Nick Newsome, Henry Newsome, Leonard Newsome, Alonza Newsome and Prentice Wayne Newsome.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home.
