JUANITA WHITFIELD

MOUNT OLIVE -- Juanita Hudson Whitfield, 85, of 900 Norwood Ezzell Road, in the Rones Chapel community, died Wednesday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

She was a life-long member of Rones Chapel United Methodist Church where she was active in all phases of church activities including former financial secretary, communion stewardess, secretary of the administrative board, membership chairperson, and former president and secretary of the United Methodist Women. She had also served as secretary of the Goldsboro District of United Methodist Women.

She was retired from Wayne County Health Department, where she was employed as finance officer for 30 years, and during her tenure she served as interim acting health director for a period of time and was awarded an honor from the N. C. Public Health Service in 1980.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Olive with the Rev. Jimmy Whitfield and the Rev. Clark Barfield officiating. Following the service, the family will remain at the funeral home to receive friends. At other times, friends and family may gather at the home of Sue J. Sutton, 916 Norwood Ezzell Road, Mount Olive.

A time of remembrance will be observed at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Rones Chapel United Methodist Church with a private committal service following in the Wells-Southerland Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitfield is survived by her sister, Mabel Hudson Bishop, her daughter and her families, and sister, Isabelle Hudson Roberts, and her sons and their families; a sister-in-law, Virginia Hicks; other nieces and nephews including Sue Jones Sutton and her families to include Jill, Nelson, Morgan, and Skyler Parks, Karen, James Ray, and Ashton Cox, and Todd Barwick, Garrison, Stacy, Drew, and Macy Jones, and Meredith and Hunter Yancey; special cousins, Pattie Belle Carter, widow of Jarvis Carter, their children and families; special friends, Norwood and Elinor Ezzell, their children and families, and the families of her late husband.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Whitfield, and their two infant children, Larry Leon Whitfield, and Annie Juanita Whitfield; two brothers, Samuel Elsworth Hudson, and Rudolph Hudson; and two sisters, Elizabeth Hudson Jones, and Mary Emma Hudson.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Juanita Hudson Whitfield Memorial Fund, Rones Chapel United Methodist Church, 138 Garner's Chapel Road, Mount Olive, NC
