GERALD GRANTHAM

Retired Master Sgt. Murray Gerald Grantham, 60, of 834 Shadow Lawn Drive, Fayet-teville, died Monday in Youngstown, Ohio.

He was born in Wayne County to the late Roland and Mary Bell Thornton Grantham. He retired from the United States Air Force as a flight engineer technician and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. While in the Air Force he received numeerous medals including the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the AF Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, AF Outstanding Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Rib-bon and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He was a member of Ebenezer Bible Church in Fayetteville. He worked as a truck driver for D.T. Grantham Trucking Com-pany.

The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The Rev. Albert Bean will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Grantham is survived by his wife, Frances Grantham; two sons, Robert A. Grantham of Wilmington and David M. Grantham of Fayetteville; three brothers, D. T. Grantham of Goldsboro, Claro "Boot" Grantham and David Grantham, both of the Grantham Community; and his step-father, Robert Thornton of the Grantham Community.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Owen Grantham.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
