ZETTIE WOODARD
PRINCETON -- Zettie Kornegay Woodard, 93, of 2225 Woodard Road, died Saturday morning.
Born in Johnston County March 2, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Owen and Louie Capps Kornegay, and the widow of Robert Vance Woodard.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anastacy Worley, a brother, Clifton Kornegay, and two sisters, Ethel Edwards and Ladis Woodard.
Mrs. Woodard was a housewife, a farmer, and was the oldest member of Progressive Presbyterian Church and past Sunday School Teacher. She was very active in the church and was a member when Progressive built the present Sanctuary. Mrs. Woodard graduated from Crumpler Business School. She was a Past President of the Johnston County Home Demonstration Club and served in all levels. She won many fashion shows with the Home Demonstration Club, and helped with decorating the Governor's Mansion at Christmas serveral years. She was also recognized as Mother of the Year.
She was the oldest member of the Farm Bureau and remained active until the past five years. While with the Farm Bureau, she was an Insurance Salesperson for Blue Cross and Charlotte Liberty Mutual. She was the Johnston County delegate for Farm Bureau meetings across the state. She worked for Tucker Furniture as a salesperson and decorator. She worked the voting poles at Brogden and was a volunteer at the Tobacco Museum.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Progressive Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Percy Coleman officiating. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Gene Woodard and special friend, Pam of Princeton; one daughter, Lou Wallace and husband, Al of Goldsboro; one brother, Frank Kornegay of Princeton; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 4 until 6 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home.
