THOMAS B. JACKSON
MOUNT OLIVE -- Thomas B. Jackson, 87, of 482 Britt Road, died Friday at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late William Mack and Rella Belle Hood Jackson, and brother of the late David Jackson and Barney Jackson. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Olive, the Loyal Soldiers Sunday School Class and the Joy Group. He was a former member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Falling Creek Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in the Quartermaster Corps, 250th Quartermaster Depot Company, Alcan Highway; with the 3rd Army in Scotland, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. His was the recipient of the American Theater Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a retired civil service employee with 32 years of service with the Veteran's Administration Hospital.
The funeral was held today at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mount Olive. Dr. Dennis Atwood officiated. Burial was in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Hilda B. Jackson; two daughters, Brenda Jackson Nelson and husband, Bill Nelson, of Summerfield, Fla., and Diane Jackson Carter and husband, Gene Carter, of Littleton; one brother, Osco Jackson of Monroe; one sister, Tempie Jackson Jones of Pikeville; four grandchildren, Chris Nelson and wife, Mara Nelson, Kami Nelson, Tara Nelson, and Jill Carter.
The family received friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Mrs. Tempie Jones, 708 Gurley-Dairy Road, in Pikeville.
