EDMOND HUGHES

Edmond B. Hughes, 74, of 502 Bunche Drive, died Sunday at his home.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Arthur O. Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Park in Mount Olive.

Mr. Hughes was born in Hot Coals, West Virginia, to the late Raymond Robert and Edna Jane Hughes. A U.S. Army veteran, he graduated from West Virginia State University and received a master's degree in music from Ohio State University. He was the band director for several local schools including Dillard and Goldsboro High schools and Easter Wayne and Greenwood junior high schools. He was a member and trustee at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and was also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Hattie Hughes of the home; two daughters, Edwenda M. Ford of St. Louis, Mo., and Theresa Annette Hughes of Ft. Washington, Md.; two brothers, Raymond Hughes and Goldwin Hughes of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Farnese Lumpkin of Savannah, Ga., and Edna Adelaid Jones of Detroit, Mich.; and three grandchildren.

The viewing hours will be from 3 until 9 p.m. on Friday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel in Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
