SUFFOLK, Va. -- Joyce W. Keen, 68, died unexpectedly at her home on Beechwood Drive on Wednesday afternoon, December 1, 2004.

Born in Wayne County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Lela Westbrook. She was also predeceased by her sister, Yvonne Fleischfresser.

She is survived by and will be lovingly missed by her husband of almost 50 years, Bobby S. Keen, with whom she worked side by side in the construction business.

She was the devoted mama of Denise K. Jurnigan, Karen K. Austin and her favorite son-in-law, Tommy Austin, loving grandmother to Stephanie Jurnigan, Lindsay Austin and Bobbie Lee Austin, sister to Alice Maxwell and Hilda Graham, sister-in-law to Barbara Graham, Lloyd Keen Jr. and Ersel Keene. Other close extended family members include her niece, Gail J. Fleischfresser; her nephew, Hunter Davis and his wife Emily and son, Mario. She will be missed by a large and loving group of friends and family, each of whom were special in their own way.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2004, at 10 a.m. in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, by Dr. Ruffin Alphin. Burial will follow at 4 that afternoon in the Eureka Christian Church Cemetery, Mount Olive, North Carolina, with the Reverend Frank Purvis officiating.

Friends may join the family at the funeral home this evening for visitation from 7 until 8, and at the residence at other times.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va. 23439.
