Bessie Lee Kornegay Lewis died Tuesday at Britthaven Nursing Home.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Darden Chapel Church on Hooks River Road. Elder Carlton Barnes will officiate. Burial will be in Rhodes Cemetery, Dudley.

Mrs. Lewis was born on Aug. 28, 1927, in Wayne County. She was the daughter of the late Sudie Coley and Frank Kornegay and was the widow of James Edgar Lewis Sr. She attended Wayne County Public Schools and was employed for many years at J.P. Taylor Tobacco Factory.

Surviving are two daughters, Pauline (James) Rouse and Bessie Mae Parker; three sons, James E. Lewis Jr., John Wesley Lewis and Linwood Earl Lewis, all of Goldsboro; one sister, Ruby Lee Moses of Pikeville; a special sister-in-law, Lucille (Henry) Jones of Godlsboro; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene; a daughter, Dorothy; and one grandson, three brothers and one sister.

The viewing hours will be from 3 until 7 p.m. on Saturday at Rhodes Funeral Home, followed by an inspirational wake from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m.
