EDDY STRICKLAND

James E. "Eddy" Strickland, 58, died Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice in Goldsboro after a courageous battle with melanoma.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of Sudie Houston Strickland of Mount Olive and the late James L. Strickland. He was a member of Brogden Chapel Church, was an avid collector of antique cars, and was a member of Carolina Coastal Custom Cars. Prior to his illness, he was employed by Wayne Memorial Hospital in the maintenance engineering department. He was also the co-owner of Southwinds Mobile Home Estates.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The Rev. Sherwood Lassiter will officiate. Burial will follow in Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, M. Carolyn McCullen Strickland of Dudley; one son, Christopher Todd Strickland of Dudley; two daughters and son-in-law, Darlene Strickland of Dudley and Dr. Toni Mann and husband, Chris, of Lubbock, Texas; one brother, Ronnie Strickland of Dudley; one sister, Jean Mitchell and husband, Arthur, of Goldsboro; and four grandchildren, Dylan and Greyson Strickland of Dudley and Chase and Jack Mann of Lubbock, Texas.

The family will be receiving friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
