LEWIS CROWNOVER
PRINCETON -- Lewis Allen Crownover, 67, died Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
The funeral was held today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Glenn Griffin and Mr. Crownover's nephew, the Rev. Mike Morley, officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Crownover was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Peoria, Ill., to the late Louis Roosevelt and Jennie Hester Chambers Crownover. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Dominican Republic, Vietnam and Desert Storm and retired as a command sergeant major with 37 years of service, including active duty and his time in the Reserves. After serving in the military, he went to work with the Wake County Sheriff's Department, from which he also retired, and then drove a tanker for Eagle Transport until his recent illness.
Surviving are his wife, Effie Overman Crownover; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary R. and Sharon Crownover of Smithfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Chris Crownover Jones and Jeramy Jones of Sims; two brothers, Robert Heath of Bradley, Ill., and Bill Heath of Mountain Grove, Mo.; three sisters, Helen Johnston of Kenosha, Wisc., Peggy Dobson of Attica, Ind., and Etta Crownover of Missouri; and two grandsons, Shawn Crownover and Keaton Jones.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Crownover.
The family received friends at the funeral home 7 until 9 on Sunday night.
