PIKEVILLE -- LaVerne Kleinert Wiggs, 69, of 1642 Mount Carmel Church Road, died Sunday at home.

The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The Reverends Gary Bailey, Barry Williamson and Ray Smeltzer will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wiggs was born in Wayne County to the late Clarence Ollie and Margaret Elizabeth Forehand Kleinert. She was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and Stoney Creek Extension Homemakers.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Shelton Wiggs; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Alan and Brenda Wiggs of Topeka, Kan.; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan Elizabeth W. and Andy Johnson of Summerville, S.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Dee Kleinert of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Joy Wiggs Bailes and her husband Jacin, Daniel Wiggs, Laura Johnson and Sarah Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Jacob Bailes.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Gideons or to the charity of one's choice.
