JOHN C. JAMES

MOUNT OLIVE -- John C. James, 60, of 2135 Summerlin's Crossroads Road, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Mickey Whitfield officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery near Seven Springs.

A native of Prosperity, W.Va., Mr. James was the son of the late Albert W. and Mildred Williams James. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a former police officer with the Town of Mount Olive. He was a member of Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Kristen James Roberts of Goldsboro and Rhonda Shuffler Bass and her husband, Mark, of Faison; a son, Robby Shuffler and his wife, Heather, of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Colby Bass and Samuel Bass of Faison and Tyler Shuffler and Emily Shuffler of Raleigh; a sister, Minnie J. Moore and her husband, Roscoe, of Seven Springs; a brother, James Robert James and his wife, Helen, of Brentwood, Tenn.; special neighbors, Dean and Pam Tucker of Mount Olive; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Smith James in February, 2004; and five brothers, Ray James, George James, Russell James, Joe James, and Walter James.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Tyndall Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Foreign Missions Fund, Rooty Branch F.W.B. Church, c/o Jimmy Barwick, 205 Beautancus Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
