THOMAS SOUTHERLAND

MAGNOLIA -- The funeral for Thomas James Southerland, 89, of 565 Old N.C. 903 Hwy., will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor E.T. Coston will officiate. Burial will be in the Devotional Gardens.

Mr. Southerland died Friday at Duplin General Hospital.

He was the son of the late Matthew and Lula Wells Southerland and was a retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Annie Ruth Southerland; four daughters, Eva S. Miller of Magnolia, Helen McGowan of Kenansville, Minnie P. Cockrell of Philadelphia, Pa., and Shirley Mills of Durham; a foster son, Lafayette Hall of Magnolia; two foster daughters, Gloria Carter of Fayetteville and Evangelist Evangeline Stridden of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Matthew Southerland Jr. and Cornelious Southerland of Magnolia; one sister, Myrtle Lee "Coote" Southerland of Magnolia; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Eva S. Miller's home at 631 Old N.C. 903 Hwy., Magnolia.

The body may be viewed today from 4 until 7 at Garris Funeral Home in Mount Olive and at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
