Marguerite Payne Pierce, 91, of the Nahunta Community, died Monday morning at Britthaven of Goldsboro.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Ken Spivey officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

A native of Hertford County, Mrs. Pierce was the daughter of the late Douglas Frederick Payne and Sarah Kathryn Boyette Payne and the widow of Cedric Dixon Pierce. She was a member of Nahunta Friends Meeting and had been active in the Nahunta Home Extension Club. She graduated from Chowan College in Murfreesboro and taught French and English at Corinth Holders High School in Johnston County.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Cedric D. Pierce Jr., and wife, Linda Gibson Pierce, of Greenville and Albert F. Pierce and wife, Linda Bunn Pierce, of Nahunta; a daughter, Cheryl Pierce Griffin, and husband, Wendell Griffin, of Dudley; a sister, Katherine Parrish of Courtland, Va.; a brother-in-law, Glenn McDonald of Blairsville, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Doug Pierce, Paul Pierce, Nan P. Wiggins, Trina P. Bowen, Emily G. Grice, Wendy Griffin and Jonathan Griffin; and seven great-grandchildren Grace Pierce, Stephen Pierce, Adam Pierce, Ashton Pierce, Seth Pierce, Maya Grice and Cullen Wiggins.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial donations may be made to Nahunta Friends Meeting Family Life Center, 2529 NC 581 North, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home following the service on Wednesday.
