REV. CLYDE W. COX
MICRO -- The Rev. Clyde W. Cox, age 84, was 1 of 12 children. Born on March 26, 1920 in Ro-wan County, NC, a son of the late John and Ollie Cox, Rev. Cox dedicated his life to the Lord. Throughout his ministry, he was a pastor at 15 churches beginning in 1952 and ending in 2003 at Spring Hill Church in Goldsboro, N.C. He conducted 274 revivals. He also taught music school in churches throughout North Carolina. He sang, played piano, wrote music and songs and directed music for several revivals.
Rev. Cox touched many people's lives over the last 52 years as a dedicated messenger of God. He also served in WWII in the US Navy on the USS Birmingham in the Pacific. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the Dr. Burkette Raper and the Rev. Stephen Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Dale Cox; son, Boyce Cox and wife, Gayle, of St. Augustine, Fla.; daughter, Sharon Griffin and husband, Wade, of Selma; grandchildren, Lee Cox and wife, Wanda, Derrick Cox and Deborah Cox, all of Raleigh, Shannon Parrish of Selma and Cindy Gray of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Frances Cox of Fruitland Park, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Eric Cox of Raleigh and Gracie Gray of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Bill Cox of Kannapolis, N.C.; sisters, Ethel Brooks and Myrtel Overcash of Kannapolis, N.C.; and all of his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and 8 brothers and sisters, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary A. Cox.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The Cox family would like to express their grateful appreciation to Wilmed Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the Wilson Medical Center, Wilmed Hospice, 1705 Tarboro Street SW, Wilson, N.C., 27893; or to Mt. Olive College, 634 Henderson Street, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, for the Historical Collection.
