CHARLES SAEGER III
BLOWING ROCK --Retired U.S. Air Force Major Charles Marshall "Chuck" Saeger III, 78, a former resident of Goldsboro, died Monday at his home.
A graveside service, with full military honors, will be conducted Friday, Sept. 17, at 9 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.
He was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Charles Marshall Saeger Jr. and Jeanette Walter Saeger. He graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville and attended American University before entering military service in 1953. Major Saeger retired from the Air Force after 18 years as a pilot. He was a member of St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock.
Survivors include one daughter, Sally Saeger Johnson, and her husband, Glenn, of Goldsboro; two sons, Charles Marshall Saeger IV, and his wife, Patricia, of Greenville, and Geoffrey Saeger of Goldsboro; two granddaughters, Melissa Leigh Saeger of Greenville and Katherine Anne Johnson of Goldsboro; two sisters, Betty Richmond, and her husband, Carl, of Bethesda, Md., and Suzanne Plank and her husband, Joe, of Mahtomedi, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his canine companion, Dinkey Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Watauga Humane Society, 200 Casey Lane, Boone, N.C., 28607.
Hampton Funeral Service in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
