SAMUEL POWELL

PRINCETON -- Samuel Elbert Powell, 82, a retired pest control operator, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Princeton Baptist Church with Dr. K. Thomas Greene, the Rev. Lee Eames and Dr. Horace Ricks officiating. Burial will be in Princeton Cemetery.

Mr. Powell was a native of Wake County and was the son of the late Moses E. and Myrtie Honeycutt Powell. He was a member and former deacon of Princeton Baptist Church and was a charter member of Princeton Fire Department. He was a former Boy Scout leader, high school basketball star and referee.

He is survived by his wife, Loleta Kenan Powell; one son, Eugene E. Powell of Raleigh; two daughters, Angela P. French of Cary and Monica P. Buchanan of Pikeville; one brother, M.E. Powell Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Edna Powell Holt of Colonial Heights, Va.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Parrish Funeral Home in Princeton.
