DORIS VARNER

Doris Kathleen House Varner, 81, of 647 Loop Road, died Sunday at her home.

A native of Wake County, Mrs. Varner was the daughter of the late Navie Richard House and Myrtle Inscore House. She and her late husband, Earl Theodore Varner, owned and operated the Stride Rite Store in Goldsboro for a number of years. She was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church and the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. Mrs. Varner had also been a member of Adamsville Baptist Church before moving to the church where her son, Ron, was pastoring. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the reading program in the Wayne County Public Schools.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Al Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Varner is survived by her son, Ronald Earl Varner and wife, Beverly, of Goldsboro; her daughters, Beverly Jean Gellatly of Fredericksburg, Va., Brenda Gail Jackson and husband, Benji, of Lugoff, S.C., and Debra Karen Robinson and husband, Joey, of Goldsboro; twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; her sisters, Elizabeth Schultz of Knightdale, Frances Nichols of Willow Springs and Colleen Coppedge of Clayton; and her brother, Navie Bennett House of Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Wade House, and her sister, Nell Poole.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial donations may be made to the Mission Fund at Falling Creek Baptist Church, 498 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.
