THELMA SOUTHERLAND

KENANSVILLE -- Funeral services for Thelma O. Southerland, 76, will be held Monday at 4 p.m. from the Big Zion AME Zion Church with the Rev. William Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the McGowan Cemetery.

Mrs. Southerland died Thursday at Guardian Care Nursing Center, Kenansville.

She is the daughter of the late Lucille Outlaw McGowan and was a retired teacher with the Duplin County School System.

She is survived by one daughter, Ivy Johnson of Philadelphia; and four brothers, Nathan McGowan of Rocky Mount, James McGowan, Odell McGowan and Monroe McGowan of Kenansville.

Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

The family will receive friends at the home of Monroe McGowan, 394 Summerlin's Crossroad, Kenansville.

Garris Funeral Home is serving the family.
