James Edgar "Sonny" Humphrey 69, of 2056 Summerhill Terrace, Kinston, died Wednesday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Humphrey was the previous owner of Down East Protection Systems, a member of the Ram Neuse Lions Club and Kinston Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and was a firefighter with the Kinston Fire Dept. for over 17 years.

He is survived by his wife of Billie Nichols Humphrey of the Home; two daughters Della Frederick and husband Don of Goldsboro and Jackie Mozingo of Kinston; two sons Randall Humphrey of Deep Run and Wayland Humphrey and wife Beverly of Deep Run; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Gertrude McLendon of Kinston, Isabelle Berrier of Norfolk, Va. and Delma Lee Sparks of Jacksonville.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Poole officiating. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home.

Flowers are accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Kinston Seventh-Day Adventist Church building fund, 1815 N. Heritage St. Kinston, N.C., 28501.
