Althea Rose Best, 88, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late George Pinkney Rose and Sarah Holmes Rose and was the widow of William T. Best.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Selah Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. Burial will be in Rose-Best Family Cemetery near the home.

Mrs. Best is survived by a daughter, Ruby B. Davis of Goldsboro; two sons, William N. "Nick" Best and wife Ruby of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and James Kirby Best and wife Cathy of Goldsboro; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Lane, Donna Phillips, Robin Hinton, Joy Dean, Michael Best, Craig Best, Kelby Best and Kelly Best; ten great-grandchildren, Nijmegen Shoemaker, Zachary Phillips, Reagan Hinton, Trey Hinton, Tanner Dean, Manning Dean, Parker Dean, Regan Best, Cassidy Best, and Connor Best; a sister, Sallie R. Westbrook of Mount Olive; and a brother-in-law, Nick Leshko of Raleigh.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Bert R. Leshko, and a brother, George Pinkney Rose.

The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Kirby Best, 958 Selah Church Road.
