WILLIAM CLAIBORNE SR.

FREMONT -- William David Claiborne Sr., 75, formerly of Fremont, died Tuesday at Wilson Medical Center.

A native of Clarksville, Va., he was the son of the late Charlie Claiborne and Beadie C. Claiborne and was married to the late Jean Speed Claiborne.

Mr. Claiborne was a retired civil engineer with the United States Air Force and was a member of Fremont Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Hettie Lou Gallagher, and her husband, Jim, of Goldsboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, William D. Claiborne Jr. and wife, Nola, of Pikeville and Benjamin C. Claiborne and wife, Christine, of Pikeville; one brother, Lawrence Claiborne of Clarksville, Va.; seven grandchildren, Lauren Claiborne, Morgan Wilson, Christian Claiborne, Carlin Claiborne, Miles Claiborne, Benjamin Sasser and Jonathan Sasser; and two great-grandchildren, Eli Sasser and Emma Jean Wilson

A graveside service with full military honors will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Oxford, N. C., with Pastor Powell Dew officiating.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Bill Claiborne, 101 Wayne Court, Pikeville.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to Fremont Missionary Baptist Church, 300 E. Carolina St., Fremont, N.C., 27830.
