DEEP RUN -- Alvis Earl Deaver, 80, of 954 Piney Grove Road, died Sunday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at the Albertson Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his son, Bishop Jesse Jackson Deaver, officiating.

Mr. Deaver was a World War II veteran, having served in the European Theater with the 821st MP unit as a combat military policeman. He landed in Normandy behind the initial D-Day invasion. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Annie Pate Deaver; six children, Stewart Deaver of Valdosta, Ga., Brenda Woodruff of Hurst, Texas, Tom Deaver, Lynn Davis and Kent Deaver of Las Vegas, and Jesse Deaver of Rocklin, Calif.; four brothers, Horace of Deep Run, Jesse and Bob of Kinston and Pete of Middlesex; two sisters, Annie Bell Harper of Pikeville and Virginia Tyndall of Kinston; and 34 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight 7 until 9 at Garner Funeral Home, 209 W. Peyton Ave., and other times at the home of Bob Deaver, 1508 Surry St.
