RUTH METZGER

Ruth Veit Metzger, 93, of 1017 S. Taylor St., died Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Charles F. and Jennie Seigfried Veit and was married to the late U.S. Navy Commander John Kurtz Metzger. A member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, she served as a member of the Chancel Choir, In-Saints Alive Chorus and the Carrillion Handbells. She also was a member of the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Officer Wives Club, the Goldsboro Retired Officer Wives Club and the Retired Officers of Goldsboro Association.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The Rev. Earl Dulaney will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Anitoch Methodist Church in Cumberland, Va.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean Hubbard of Goldsboro; one son, Gary Metzger; a grandson; and good friend, Betty Holloman.

The family will be receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the memorial service, and other times at the home.

Flowers are acceptable, or memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church Music Department, 1608 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
